Cohen, Placitella & Roth Attorneys Prominently Featured In New Mass Tort & Class Action Treatise

CPR attorneys are prominently featured as editor, authors, and peer-reviewers, in a new mass tort and class action legal treatise published by the New Jersey State Bar Association. Shareholder Christopher Placitella, Esq. is the editor-in-chief of the newly-released 2015 New Jersey Mass Tort & Class Action Treatise, published by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE), a division of the New Jersey State Bar Association. The treatise is authored and reviewed by some of the most respected and experienced jurists and attorneys involved in mass tort and class action litigation in New Jersey and nationally. Substantively, the treatise addresses both the emerging and long-standing substance and procedure of mass-tort and class action cases in New Jersey.

Many CPR attorneys, are featured as authors in the treatise. The following firm attorneys authored or co-authored chapters in the book:

  • Mr. Christopher Placitella, Esq. serves as Editor in Chief of the Treatise and co-authored chapters on “Damages & Remedies” and “Statute of Limitations”, as well as penning a “Historical Perspective” of mass-tort litigation in the State.
  • Ms. Alessandra C. Phillips, Esq. co-authored a chapter on “The New Jersey Uniform Securities Law.”
  • Mrs. Jillian A. S. Roman, Esq. co-authored a chapter on “Causation.”
  • Mr. Jared M. Placitella, Esq. co-authored chapters on “Damages & Remedies” and “Statute of Limitations” with CPR Shareholder Christopher Placitella, Esq., as well as on “Expert Testimony in Toxic and Mass Tort Cases” with the retired Supreme Court Justice Virginia A. Long, now counsel at Fox Rothschild LLP in Princeton, N.J.

CPR attorneys, were integral to the peer-review process as well. Each chapter of the treatise was peer-reviewed from the perspective of both the plaintiff and the defense to insure that the publication is balanced and objective. To this end, members Rachel A. Placitella, Esq. and Michael Coren, Esq. participated extensively in the peer-review process.

On February 18, 2015, Mr. Christopher Placitella, Esq. moderated the NJICLE Mass Tort & Class Action Conference at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick, where the treatise was launched. Not only were hundreds of attendees present from both sides of the bar, but the Conference was also simultaneously streamed nationally online. Special Master Agatha Dzikiewicz spoke about the current state of the asbestos multicounty litigation, eminent attorneys presented on subject matters covered in the treatise, and the Honorable Brian R. Martinotti and the Honorable C. Judson Hamlin (ret.) participated in a judicial roundtable on expert testimony in mass tort litigation. At the conference Ms. Alessandra Phillips, Esq. presented on Securities Law and Mr. Jared Placitella, Esq. presented on Statute of Limitations Issues in Mass Tort Cases.
