Cohen, Placitella & Roth Awards Scholarship to Rutgers Camden Student

Cohen, Placitella & Roth, P.C. recently awarded a $2,500.00 scholarship to Rutgers Camden law student Christine Braswell. Cohen, Placitella & Roth, P.C. chose to make a scholarship award available this year to a deserving law student based on the student’s academic, vocational, and volunteer background.

Ms. Braswell distinguished herself from hundreds of other applicants based on her scholastic achievement and dedication to public service. Ms. Braswell is currently enrolled as a law student at Rutgers Camden in New Jersey where she holds a 4.0 GPA and is ranked in the top five percent of her class. She attended Providence College and the University of Florida prior to beginning her legal studies at Rutgers. She had previously worked for nearly six years at Disability Determination Services locations in Roanoke, VA, Jacksonville, FL, and Timonium, MD. She has also provided pro-bono legal services in Austin, TX as well as in Camden, NJ with the Financial Literacy Project and Voters Rights Project. In law school, she has been named as a Dean’s Highest Excellence Scholar as well as named to the Dean’s List during her first semester of her first year of studies, an honor reserved for those who are in the top five percent of their class.

Ms. Braswell hopes to work in the health law field by creating and enforcing public policy. She is committed to making preventative care accessible for others as she saw firsthand the difference preventative care can make in a person’s life during her time as a disability analyst with Disability Determination Services.

“I come from a background of public service,” Ms. Braswell wrote in her application. “I have worked for Disability Determination Services for six years and come to law school with the goal of ultimately helping the underserved obtain healthcare services. I participate whenever possible in pro-bono activities and am grateful for the opportunity to be in law school.”

“I gave up my career to come to law school and follow my passion which has been a wonderful experience but has cost me an income,” Ms. Braswell continued. “This scholarship will allow me to continue to follow my passion without being held back by [a] lack of funds.”
